"Price increase" seems to have become a true portrayal of the recent timber market. Following a wave of "price increases" in North American lumber prices some time ago, the prices of African lumber and PNG lumber have also risen recently. In the process of visiting the timber market, the editor learned that the price of small zebra boards has risen by about 300-400 yuan/cubic meter recently, and the price of safflower pear has risen by 200-300 yuan/cubic meter. , yellow rose and other species prices have also increased, ranging from 200-500 yuan / cubic meter.

Some industry insiders said that the rise in the prices of African materials and PNG materials this time is mainly due to the superposition of various factors.

One is the rise in transportation costs. It is understood that the current shipping costs remain high, and there are even signs of rising. In terms of domestic automobile transportation, driven by the sharp rise in oil prices, automobile transportation costs have also entered an upward channel.

Second, processing costs have risen. Affected by the nationwide "power curtailment" (although the current curtailment situation has eased, it still exists), processing costs such as drying of wood continue to rise, which further pushes up the comprehensive cost of African wood and PNG wood.

Third, the supply of logs is in short supply due to the shipping schedule. The chaotic shipping order has been greatly extended, and new upstream timber products have been slow to enter the Chinese market, which has directly led to a shortage of supplies of tang wood and other timber species in the domestic market, and their end-market sales prices have also been pushed up.

It is worth mentioning that the increase in the price of timber in Africa and PNG has not suppressed the consumption demand in the downstream market. The demand in the downstream market has been generally better recently, and the volume of timber shipments has also increased compared to before. Some market participants pointed out that near the end of the year, downstream furniture, decoration and other industries have entered the construction period one after another. In addition, the electricity situation has eased in the near term, and the operating rate of downstream manufacturers has increased significantly compared with before, which in turn has pushed up the market demand for wood.

However, the merchants also pointed out that although the situation of the timber market is improving at this stage, we cannot have too much expectation for the future market. After all, the industries closely related to timber, such as the property market, are still deserted at this stage. In the context of the lack of positive news in the external market, it is recommended that all parties in the timber industry should still be cautious.
