As of the first half of this year, China's imports of logs fell by 9.3% year-on-year to a total of 20.31 million m3; the volume of sawn timber rose by 11.4% year-on-year to a total of 14.31 million m3. As the furniture market is gradually recovering this year, it is expected that sawn timber imports will continue to grow steadily in the second half of this year, but prices will not fluctuate too much.
As the main industry that uses wood, according to customs statistics, in the first half of this year, the export value of Chinese furniture and its parts was 216.21 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 3.5%.
It is worth noting that since April, the export value of furniture and its parts has declined month by month, and the most serious decline was in May, which fell by 10.8% from the previous month. The decline in June has slowed down. The export value of furniture and its parts in that month was 36.49 billion yuan, down 1.4% from the previous month.
As the timber market begins to recover gradually, the market shipments have also increased recently. After several consecutive days of rising prices, the recent national timber prices have temporarily stabilized. However, log prices still have an upward trend, and it is not ruled out that there will be room for further increases in the later period.
Not only that, 13 departments including the Ministry of Commerce recently issued a notice on several measures to promote household consumption. It is expected that China's furniture wood consumption market may usher in a small heat.
