On May 27, the National Bureau of Statistics released a report on the profit data of industrial enterprises above designated size across the country from January to April 2023.
The data shows that from January to April this year, the operating income of the furniture manufacturing industry was 189.80 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 11.0%; the operating cost was 157.67 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 12.4%; the total profit was 6.84 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 12.3%.
The operating income of wood processing and wood, bamboo, rattan, palm and grass products was 274.13 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 6.4%; the operating cost was 250.15 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 6.2%; the total profit was 7.74 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 7.4%.
The operating income of the textile industry was 711.11 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 5.1%; the operating cost was 639.07 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 4.8%; the total profit was 15.65 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 30.2%.
In general, from January to April, the total profits of industrial enterprises above designated size across the country were 2,032.88 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 20.6%. Among the 41 major industrial sectors, the total profit of 13 industries increased year-on-year, 1 industry remained flat, and 27 industries declined.
Sun Xiao, a statistician at the Industry Department of the National Bureau of Statistics, analyzed that in April, industrial production continued to recover, corporate revenue growth accelerated, and profit decline continued to narrow. Among them, the profits of industrial enterprises above designated size fell by 18.2% year-on-year in April, which was 1.0 percentage points lower than that in March and narrowed for two consecutive months. Earnings improved in most industries.
On the whole, the profitability of industrial enterprises continues to recover, but it must also be noted that the international environment is severe and complex, and the constraints of insufficient demand are obvious, and industrial enterprises are facing more difficulties in the continuous recovery of profitability.
