After a rather weak start in the first quarter, Russian birch plywood exports increased again at a more significant rate in the second quarter.
According to preliminary data from the Russian customs, it was 745,380 cubic meters, which was 15% more than the previous year's volume. Compared with the export volume of 698,194 cubic meters in the first quarter, this represents an increase of 7%.
Compared with the first quarter, exports to Europe and other countries have all declined. Germany fell 9% to 54,640 cubic meters, the Netherlands fell 7% to 29,644 cubic meters, the United Kingdom fell 15% to 24,442 cubic meters, Estonia fell 19% to 21,458 cubic meters and Azerbaijan fell 48% to 15,036 cubic meters; still lower than last year's number.
Exports to China nearly tripled to 21,293 cubic meters, exports to the United States rose 8% to 107,311 cubic meters, Egypt rose 6% to 78,709 cubic meters, and Poland increased 10% to 30,734 cubic meters. The proportional increase and Finland increased by 10% to 25,482 cubic meters.
The export growth of birch plywood from Russia this time, but the decline in the EU area, can be combined with the previous EU's increase in import tariffs on Russian birch plywood.
The European Commission has approved the imposition of permanent import duties on birch plywood from Russia, which was previously imposed temporarily (in June). Experts said that anti-dumping measures will force Russian domestic manufacturers to reconsider the geographical distribution of export supplies and increase the price of panel products. This is stated in the report in the Official Journal of the European Union. This decision was made after considering complaints from European manufacturers.
