According to a Reuters report on May 18, Chinese Ambassador to Australia Xiao Qian said on the 18th that China will resume importing Australian timber from now on.

Australia's timber trade with China was largely halted in late 2020 after Beijing said it had found harmful organisms in timber from multiple Australian ports. Previously, the trade was worth hundreds of millions of Australian dollars a year.

Ambassador Xiao Qian said in a speech in Canberra: "Yesterday (17th) Chinese Customs has officially notified the Australian Minister of Agriculture that China will resume importing Australian timber from today (18th)."
