Sweden reported 26,017 hectares of logging and license applications in August, a 20% increase compared to August 2022. Of this amount, 145 hectares are subject to final harvesting permits in mountain forests, compared with 1,117 hectares in 2022. in the same month last year, according to the Swedish Forest Agency.
This is an increase of 2% compared to the national average area notified and applied for in August over the past five years. This is an increase of 3% compared to the average area over the past ten years.
From January to August, the area of final logging license notifications and applications increased by 19% compared with the same period last year. So far this year, applications for final logging licenses in mountain forests have reached 9,874 hectares, compared with 4,030 hectares in the same period last year.
In North Nordland, the area notified and applied for increased by 60%, in South Nordland by 7% and in Götaland by 31%. In Svealand, however, this figure fell by 3% compared to the first eight months of 2022.
Compared with the national average notification and application area in the first eight months of each year over the past five years, this is an increase of 2%. This is an increase of 3% compared to the past ten years.
