2018 was the year with the largest construction area of wood structure buildings in the past four years, reaching 3.7 million square meters. In 2019 and 2020, affected by the policy of small property right houses and the clean-up of illegal construction, the construction area continued to decline, reaching 2.42 million square meters and 1.4 million square meters respectively.

In 2021, the construction area of wood-structured buildings will rebound to about 3.108 million square meters. Cultural tourism projects account for more than 80%, and the ratio of public buildings to residential buildings is 7:1.

In general, the wood structure building market is less than 20 billion yuan, small in scale and slow in growth, but the quality of development has been greatly improved in recent years.

From the analysis of the number of enterprises, there are about 270 wood structure enterprises in the country, and private enterprises account for about 80%. Small and medium-sized enterprises with a registered capital of less than 10 million yuan account for 65%, enterprises with a registered capital of 10 million to 50 million yuan account for 25%, and enterprises with a registered capital of more than 50 million yuan account for 10%. Companies operating continuously for more than 20 years accounted for 4%. From 2001 to 2005, new enterprises accounted for 12%, from 2006 to 2010, new enterprises accounted for 20%, from 2011 to 2015, new enterprises accounted for 41%, and after 2016, new enterprises accounted for 23%.

More than 60% of enterprises have been in operation for less than 10 years, and more than 90% of enterprises have less than 100 employees. Enterprises are mainly distributed in Northeast China, East China, Central China and Southwest China, among which the number of enterprises in East China accounts for more than 70%, and the output value accounts for more than 90%. The social division of labor of enterprises is gradually refined and developed towards specialization, and there is still homogeneous competition in some fields.

From the perspective of building materials, glulam is the main material for well-dry, beam-and-column wood structures and large-span glulam structures, and has become the main product in structural materials.

The raw materials for domestic manufacture of glulam mainly include domestic larch, imported sycamore pine, SPF (combination of spruce, pine, and fir) and Douglas fir. There are 105 parallel glulam (GLT) production lines, with an annual production capacity of 500,000-700,000 cubic meters; 4 cross-laminated lumber (CLT) production lines, with an annual production capacity of 120,000-150,000 cubic meters; cylindrical glulam There are more than 20 production lines and bending glulam production lines, with an annual production capacity of 80,000-100,000 cubic meters; more than 30 sets (sets) of multi-axis machining centers.

The glulam structural timber certification system has basically taken shape, which is gradually changing the situation of relying on imported glulam in the past. But some problems still exist, such as low product standardization, unstable product performance, low equipment automation, low processing efficiency and precision.

In 2022, the wood structure market will still be dominated by cultural tourism projects and public buildings. There will be new breakthroughs in the new rural housing project, but it is still in its infancy, and the landing mode is also being explored. The construction of five national park facilities, wooden structures will usher in opportunities. The new construction area is expected to be around 4 million square meters. On April 1, the "General Specification for Building Energy Conservation and Renewable Energy Utilization" GB55015-2021 came into effect, and the calculation of building carbon emissions became a mandatory requirement, and the market is looking forward to the application of low-carbon buildings and low-carbon technologies.

In addition, the government will continue to promote the standardized development of the construction market order, and some wood structure enterprises may face transformation. New building products such as modular houses and steel-wood composite structure houses are expected to enter into industrialization. Individual large-span public buildings will be presented.
