On September 5, the "Japanese Wood Application Seminar" co-hosted by Japan External Trade Organization and China Timber and Wood Products Circulation Association was successfully held in Nanning, Guangxi. The seminar was held online and offline. A total of more than 3,000 representatives attended the seminar. Kazuyuki Tang Ze, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of the Beijing Representative Office of Japan External Trade Organization, presided over the seminar.
Takashima Ryusuke, Director of the Beijing Office of Japan External Trade Organization, and Li Jiafeng, President of China Timber and Wood Products Circulation Association, delivered speeches successively.
Director Ryusuke Takashima pointed out that Japan External Trade Organization, as an export promotion agency for Japanese timber, is committed to developing overseas markets for Japanese timber. China is the largest export market for Japanese timber. Through years of cooperation with China Timber and Wood Products Circulation Association , jointly held various forms of promotion activities including trade matchmaking fairs, which effectively promoted the development of Sino-Japanese timber trade.
Chairman Li Jiafeng believes that over the years, China Timber and Wood Products Circulation Association has always adhered to the development of exchanges and cooperation between the Chinese and Japanese wood industry, and has successfully jointly held the China-Japan Wood Industry Seminar and the China-Japan Wood Industry Matchmaking Conference. In 2022 A series of activities such as the Chinese New Year Order Fair has effectively enhanced the understanding and recognition of Japanese wood in the Chinese market. From 2015 to 2022, the total amount of imported Japanese wood has increased by 180%. In the future, the association will continue to carry out extensive cooperation with Japan External Trade Organization to jointly promote the development of the wood industry in China and Japan.
Yoshiyuki Mikami, Counselor of the Economic Department of the Japanese Embassy in China, delivered a speech via video. Counselor Mikami introduced the basic situation of Japanese-made timber exported to the Chinese market. He believes that the Chinese market occupies a very important position in the forest products exported from Japan. 80% of the logs exported from Japan and 40% of the total timber are exported to China, with an export value of about 1.2 billion yuan. The main tree species include cedar, cypress and larch. It is hoped that through this seminar, Chinese consumers can deepen their understanding of Japanese timber and promote the development of Sino-Japanese timber trade.
The forum invited the representative of Koshii Wood Industry Co., Ltd., who won the "Forest Decarbonization Challenge 2022" Excellence Award planned by the Japan Forestry Agency, to explain the application of Yuexiu wood in China in detail. Kazuyuki introduced the basic situation of Japan's timber industry, including the current situation of Japan's forest resources and Japan's timber exports.
