1. Blockboard "Big Core Board": Good moisture-proof effect, cannot be directly painted.
The middle of the blockboard is a core made of natural wood strips bonded together, with very thin wood veneer on both sides. As the name suggests, large core board is one of the most important materials in decoration. It can be used for furniture, wooden doors, door covers, heating hoods, curtain boxes, etc. Its waterproof and moisture-proof performance is better than that of particle board and medium density board. When selecting, it is advisable to look at the internal wood and avoid excessive fragmentation. A blockboard with a gap of about 3mm between the wood should be considered. Due to the unattractive wood grain exposed on the surface, it is rarely directly painted, and usually a decorative plywood is required. Furniture and other woodwork made from large core boards need to go through two processes: using adhesive boards and painting, and the cost is higher. The standard thickness of the large core board is 18 cm, but there are only 16 cm available in the market. You can choose according to the pressure and strength you can withstand, and the thicker the board, the higher the price.
Many consumers choose large core boards based on both weight and price. In fact, the heavier the large core board, the worse its quality. Because the larger the weight, the more it indicates that this type of board uses miscellaneous wood. This type of large core board made of miscellaneous wood cannot be nailed in at all, so it cannot be used.
In addition, large core boards with very low prices will definitely have poor quality. Either the gap is large or substandard wood is used. So when choosing, it's best to choose a large core board for around 100 yuan. The quality of the large core board at this price is relatively stable. The large core board sold in the market at a price of 50-55 yuan per sheet is simply unusable.
Choosing a large core board depends on its appearance: one side of the board must be a complete wooden board, and only one seam is allowed on the other side. In addition, the surface of the large core board must be dry and smooth.
Additionally, when choosing a large core board, be sure to cut a corner and check the quality inside. The gaps between the small wooden strips spliced inside should not exceed 5mm, and wood with bark, boreholes, and dead knots should not be used. A high-quality large core board with serrated tenons connecting the small wooden strips.
In use, the large core board can only be "opened" along the long side and cannot be sawn horizontally. In addition, the large core board cannot be used as a panel, and an additional layer of plywood should be pasted on the outside as a panel, otherwise problems such as paint blistering may occur.
