A warm, luminous wood ceiling can bring a new dimension of beauty to a large, open room. In a home or cottage, choosing the right wood for the wood ceiling is very challenging. But the results are worth it. Refer to these suggestions and choose the wood ceiling that suits your room decor.
If you live in a climate that is either very humid or very throughout the year, you will want to install wood planks for your ceiling, rather than natural wood, in humid climates. Natural wood will swell and bend, and in dry climates, natural wood will shrink and unprocessed joints will be exposed to dust and pests. If you already have pine, oak or cherry wood paneling, choose a plank ceiling that is similar in color to the paneling to make the room look bigger and have a higher ceiling. If your room is half-timbered, or you only have solid wood skirting boards, matching the ceiling will also make the ceiling look higher. If the room has a tile ceiling, or plaster or plaster ceiling, remove it completely before installing the slab ceiling. Attach the planks directly to the ceiling joists.
This will increase the height of the ceiling by 12 inches. If you want to look more rustic, you can paste wooden boards on the ceiling, and then fix the ceiling beams of the same wood at right angles and evenly spaced. The moisture content of reclaimed wood is usually much lower than that of freshly cut wood, so you can use it in very dry climates to add plank ceilings and wood decorations to your house to avoid the problem of further shrinkage of the wood.
If your existing wall panels are very wide, then choose a similar width as your ceiling. If the width of the panels is different, choose the narrowest size uniform space, the longest wood panel, and the least visible connections. The wood ceiling that looks the best. Measure the ceiling carefully to determine the longest plank length you need. If you have an area with several short planks parallel to each other, consider using a vertically placed ceiling beam to cover this area. Place another ceiling beam at an appropriate distance.
