1. What is fir?
Chinese fir, scientific name: Cunninghamialanceolata (Lamb.) Hook., also known as sand wood, sand tree, etc., belongs to the cypress family, cypress trees, up to 30 meters, the diameter at breast height can reach 2.5-3 meters; the bark is gray Brown; winter buds are approximately round, male cones are conical, female cones are solitary, cones are oval, grow to 2.5-5 cm, diameter is 3-4 cm; seeds are flat, covering seed scales, long oval or oblong, the flowering period is 4 months, and the cones mature in late October.
Chinese fir is mainly used to dispel wind and relieve pain and has the effect of dispersing blood stasis and hemostasis. As well as in construction, bridges, shipbuilding, mine pillars, etc. Firwood itself has a very soft aroma. This fragrant scent is cedar alcohol, which can kill bacteria in the air and inhibit pathogenic bacteria in the human body. Cedarwood has inhibitory effects on various skin inflammations. At the same time, fir alcohol has the health care effect of eliminating fatigue and relieving stress on the human body, so Chinese fir furniture is very good furniture.
2. What are the types of fir?
The types of fir trees include pond fir, Metasequoia, cedar, deciduous fir, short cedar, monkey's claw fir, and coastal red cedar. The fir trees belong to the pine family, evergreen trees, and grow in the mountains at an altitude of 2500 meters to 4000 meters. in the cold zone. The height can reach 30 meters, the diameter at breast height is 3 meters, the trunk is very straight, and the tree shape is very neat.
There are many kinds of Chinese fir, which can be roughly divided into three categories: one is oil fir with yellow-green and shiny new leaves, also known as yellow fir or hemlock; the other is blue-green, dull gray Chinese fir, also known as bran fir, awn fir, and bubble fir; there is another type of fir with thin and soft leaves and drooping branches, also known as soft-leaf fir. Known as the "Almighty Tree".
The most precious Baishanzu fir is an evergreen tree, belonging to the Pinaceae fir. The height of the Baishanzu fir is 11 meters; the leaves are strip-shaped, 1.5-3.5 cm long; the cones are cylindrical, 7-12 cm long. In the 1970s, it was discovered by Wu Mingxiang, a senior engineer who has been engaged in scientific research in the forestry industry for a long time. The discovery of this new fir fills the gap of no fir distribution in East China and is of great significance for the study of paleoclimate and the Quaternary ice age. Because this new fir is only preserved in the mixed coniferous forest at an altitude of 1700 meters on the southern slope of Baishan Zu, Qingyuan County, southern Zhejiang Province, and it is difficult to bloom and bear fruit, it has been listed as an endangered plant in the world that needs to be protected urgently.
