Asian demand for tree species such as Okoume and Sequoia has slowed significantly.

Philippine importers have reduced Okoume sawlog imports by about 30%, affecting trade across the region.

In China, demand for Okoume and Ayus is weak, while demand for other varieties such as Owanke, Pele and Okan remains stable. Chinese mills in the region are shifting focus away from Okoume to other varieties, including AZO for the Dutch and German markets, as Chinese demand falls, but demand from the hydraulics sector has declined due to reduced construction activity due to European holidays.
