According to data released by the General Administration of Customs of Vietnam, the export value of Vietnam's timber and wood products reached US$1.1 billion in June, a month-on-month increase of 3.7% and a year-on-year decrease of 23%. Among them, the total export value of wood products reached 750 million US dollars, a decrease of 1.3% month-on-month and a year-on-year decrease of 21%.
Judging from the export data for the entire first half of the year, the total value of Vietnam's timber and wood products exports reached US$6.1 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 28%. Among them, as the main export product, Vietnam's wood products accounted for a large proportion of the export value in the first half of the year, with a total value of 4.1 billion US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 32%. As a side note, Vietnam's exports of timber and wood products have not yet returned to the level of last year.
From the perspective of imports, in June this year, Vietnam's total import value of timber and wood products reached 190 million US dollars, a decrease of 12% from the previous month and a decrease of 37% from the same period last year. In the first six months of this year, overall imports of lumber and wood products totaled US$1.04 billion, down 34% year-on-year.
Among them, oak imports increased. The oak import volume in the first half of the year reached 140,000 cubic meters, an increase of 6% year-on-year; the value reached 78.5 million US dollars, a decrease of 8% month-on-month. As far as June is concerned, the volume reached 35,800 cubic meters, a month-on-month increase of 6%, and a year-on-year increase of 12%; the value reached 19.7 million US dollars, a month-on-month increase of 5%, and a month-on-month decrease of 11%.
In terms of timber trade with my country, in June 2023, the total volume of timber raw materials imported by Vietnam from my country reached 48,000 cubic meters, with a value of 23 million US dollars. Compared with May 2023, the volume and value increased by 6% and 6% respectively , but compared to June 2022, the volume and value are down 32% and 48%, respectively.
Looking at the entire first half of the year, Vietnam imported 251,500 cubic meters of wood raw materials from my country, worth 120.96 million US dollars. Compared with the same period in 2022, the volume decreased by 37% and the value decreased by 45%.
