China’s Timber Imports From Northwest Russia Increased By 150%

Timber harvests in Russia's northwestern federal region could increase by 10% by the end of the year, according to Roslesinforge; forestry sectors are also recovering in other regions.


According to Roslesinforge, the North-West Region produced approximately 6 million cubic meters of wood in nine months, an increase of 1.2% compared to the same period in 2022. Among them, the export volume was nearly 4 million cubic meters, and its share in Russia’s total external supply of wood products increased from 24% in the same period last year to 25.5%.


Currently, China is the largest buyer of Russian timber in the North-West Federal District. From January to September, it supplied 2.4 million cubic meters of wood to China, an increase of 150%.
