According to a press release published on August 1 by RougierGabon, Gabon’s largest wood company, RougierGabon produced 212,286m³ in the first half of 2022 (149,891m³ in the first half of 2021), an increase of 42% in log production.
Founded in Gabon in 1952, Rougier is considered a growth driver of the Gabon economy. It currently has more than 1,500 employees and manages 895,000 hectares of forest spread across 4 forest concessions across Gabon.
Rougier Gabon's sawmill processed 18,500 cubic meters of 100% FSC-certified logs in the first half of the year. It is reported that sales of RougierGabon have directly affected the wood processing plants in the Nkok Special Economic Zone (SEZ).
The company announced: “104,572m³ of 100% FSC certified wood has been sold in the region between January 2022 and June 2022, compared to just 70,007m³ in the first half of 2021, an increase of almost 50%.”
This growth shows that Rugier's support for the downstream timber industry is huge and has created and secured nearly 1,000 jobs for the Nkok SEZ. These results all demonstrate the "relevance" of RougierGabon's operating model, through which nearly 3.4 billion CFA francs have been invested in 2022 (2.4 billion CFA francs in direct investment and 1 billion CFA francs in indirect investment in logistics and transport) ).
