At present, the prices of German oak and beech are still at a high level, and there is no downward trend in the short term. Buyers should be cautious.
At the end of 2022, the price of beech wood used for firewood functions was even higher than the price of beech for industrial use due to high demand.
"The beech industrial timber, which is usually used in the pulp industry, is practically gone, they are all entering the firewood market now," said Christian Raupach, managing director of the Forest Owners Association in Hesse.
With the changes in demand in German and international export markets in 2023, the prices of hardwood sawn timber such as beech and oak may remain high.
