Dongguan, China – December 22, 2025 – MuMu Design, a professional manufacturer and wholesale supplier of customized wood cladding solutions, is pleased to announce the successful delivery of a bespoke order of Shou Sugi Ban wood panels to a residential client in the United States. The panels are now being installed as exterior wall cladding for a private villa in California.

Exterior Shou Sugi Ban

Shou Sugi Ban, also known as Yakisugi, is a traditional Japanese wood preservation technique that involves charring the wood surface to form a protective carbon layer. When combined with modern thermal modification technology, the process significantly enhances durability, weather resistance, and dimensional stability, making it suitable for both exterior and interior architectural applications.

For this project, MuMu Design supplied fully customized panels manufactured from sustainably sourced Finnish pine. The wood offers excellent UV resistance, natural protection against rot and insects, and an expected service life of 20–30 years without the use of chemical treatments.

The U.S. homeowner requested a bespoke color scheme that blended classic charred grey tones with subtle black hues to complement the architectural style of the house. Using advanced staining and finishing techniques, MuMu Design's production team achieved an almost exact color match to the client's reference samples, ensuring visual consistency and seamless integration with the overall design.

Applications of Shou Sugi Ban

The exterior cladding panels measure 2700 mm × 600 mm, with customizable thickness options ranging from 12 mm to 18 mm. Featuring a pronounced 3D embossed texture, the panels create dynamic light and shadow effects on the façade while providing reliable protection against harsh outdoor conditions.

"This project highlights our strong customization capabilities," said a spokesperson for MuMu Design. "From material selection and dimensions to surface texture and color matching, we work closely with our clients to transform design concepts into high-quality finished products."
